Strong for Life Couple Therapy integrates various evidence-based Integrative Therapy (Psycho-Behavioural) therapeutic interventions or modalities to improve a couple’s partnership and intimacy by addressing conflict, communication, and emotional bonds. Strong for Life Couple Therapy’s renowned approaches include Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for attachment, the research-based Gottman Method, and Cognitive-Behavioural Couple Therapy (CBCT) for changing negative patterns along with IMAGO, Integrative Behavioural (IBCT), and Narrative therapies.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT):
Focuses on attachment and emotional bonding to repair insecure attachments, helping couples move from distress to secure connection.
A structured approach based on research that identifies and addresses negative interaction patterns (“the four horsemen”: criticism, defensiveness, stonewalling, and contempt) to strengthen friendship and conflict management.
Cognitive-Behavioural Couple Therapy (CBCT):
Targets specific behaviors and thought patterns that cause distress, aiming to change negative interactions.
Aims to transform conflict into healing by understanding the subconscious reasons for partner selection and using dialogue to foster empathy.
Integrative Behavioural Couple Therapy (IBCT):
Focuses on emotional acceptance and understanding differences rather than just changing behaviour.
Helps couples deconstruct their problems by externalizing them, separating the couple from the issue.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT):
Used for couples with intense, volatile conflict to improve emotional regulation and communication.
At Strong for Life Couple’s Therapy and Counselling, we focus on improving communication, resolving conflicts, and strengthening the relationship between couples. As part of the Strong for Life Couple’s Therapy and Counseling approach, the couple has the opportunity to perceive problems from the perspective of patterns rather than individual problems.
Having this knowledge empowers the couple to make sense of their behaviors, develop trust, and overcome challenges such as an impending divorce, infidelity, different forms of addiction (sex, photography, gambling), substance abuse, or a number of other psychological difficulties.
In fact, our Strong for Life Integrative Therapy (Psycho-Behavioural) therapeutic interventions are not only highly effective to Couple Therapy, but also highly relevant in a number of different contexts, including Family Therapy, Child-play Therapy, in group settings, addiction recovery and rehabilitation centers as well as, most notably, also in Family Law and Divorce Mediation and High Conflict and Complex Divorce Cases involving malicious opponents, for example Narcissists and Psychopaths, and their related Abuse..
Purpose:
The primary goal is to nurture change, develop healthier interaction patterns, and create a more functional partnership environment.
Participants:
While often involving traditional partnerships (usually male-female marriages), it can also include any combination of partnerships, including same-sex or cross-cultural unions.
Issues Addressed:
Couple Therapy and counselling are effective at addressing a couple’s behavioural issues, e.g., addiction, grief, divorce, financial struggles, and mental health diagnoses within the partnership.
